a refinished farmhouse dining table

Dining rooms are one of those rooms in your house that is very highly utilized - at least in my house! Everything, and I mean everything, gets put on my kitchen table! It can take a beating, and then suddenly you have a table that is still in great shape structurally but is lacking the "pretty" factor.  Something like this:

Needs a little something, doesn't it? My client came to me with her table and with inspiration - a farmhouse table in white and grey!  I can't stress enough how important PREP is when refinishing dining sets! Clean, clean, clean, and then clean again! Then sand, and clean again!

The table top and chair seats were completely stripped and then stained in a custom formula I've come up with for this grey washed look.  Because the natural tannins in oak are very strong, they will come through with the addition of this stain - and that's okay! The formula I have developed works with the tannins to create a driftwood look!

When the staining was done I taped it all off and started to prime the chairs - this is a crucial step when painting oak white - those tannins can be your nemesis! I used BIN Shellac, in multiple coats, before painting it in the perfect white - Simplicity by Country Chic Paint. This colour is by far the most requested colour for dining sets for me! It is a perfect crisp white!

Country Chic's All-in-One paint formula is my absolute favourite to paint with.  The coverage and adhesion is excellent, the consistency is creamy but not too thick, and the built in topcoat gives me that added assurance of durability and protection. If you haven't tried it yet, try it now! Trust me, you'll love it!

Even though the paint has a built in topcoat, tables just get so much use that I add additional topcoats.  This one got 4 coats of poly in a satin finish, sanding with 320grit sandpaper between coats.

I have to admit part of the reason I took this custom job on is because I love pressback chairs! These ones in particular had such pretty legs - and if you love furniture as much as I do you know that legs make all the difference!

I am delighted with this dining room set! It's a true farmhouse piece that'll last for years and years to come!

Using a paint you know and trust is so important when refinishing furniture! Country Chic Paint has never let me down - their quality is top-notch and I highly recommend their products!
