classic french provincial nightstands

Y'all.  I swear it's the season of matching nightstands! I can honestly tell you in all my past years it's been an absolutely rarity, but this year it's abundant! Now that I say that I'll probably never find another matching set...

I bought this set of nightstands as part of a bedroom suite.  Although French Provincial furniture isn't my own style in my home, it's a style I absolutely love and buy whenever I can find it.  Here is a side by side of what the tables looked like before and with one coat of paint:

1.  They needed a makeover.
2.  I painted them in my absolute favourite colour ever (even if that may mean I'm boring)
3.  Look at the coverage after one coat!

I painted these in Vanilla Frosting from Country Chic Paint.  This colour is never not on my paint shelf.  It makes me nervous when I'm running low.  It's classic, timeless, and the perfect off-white. Not too white, not too yellow, just perfectly in between.

Prep, prep, prep.  This era of furniture is notorious for being owned by people who loved spray waxes like Pledge.  Fortunately this set showed no signs of wax, but if there is you MUST clean that off with denatured alcohol or mineral spirits before painting.  I cleaned, sanded, vacuumed, and then painted.  I sprayed these as there is a lot of detail and sides of legs, and spraying ensures even coverage. After I did two coats and let them dry, I distressed them really well.

Classic furniture in a classic colour.  It just doesn't get a lot better than that, does it?

I finished these off by sealing them with three coats of satin poly for a durable finish.  Nightstands can take a lot of abuse so it's wise to give them a hard topcoat.  I love how these turned out!
